How do I get a FREE credit report from Transunion, Equifax , and Experian?

simone asked:

I keep getting on web sites that ask for payment for a credit report. And some sites look like scams… I live in IL and thought I was entitled to 1 FREE report per year from each of the reporting agencies. But how do you contact them to get a FREE report.

The only official site to use is annualcreditreport.com – all the others are trying to sell you something. If you would like to monitor your credit yourself for free, just get 1 report now. In 4 months, get another then in another 4 months get the last one.

If you find anything you need to dispute, then use the website of whichever company produced the report with the error.
