What’s the deal with free credit reports?

I would like to get a free credit report but I’m leary of putting my financial info on the net. – which service is best to use and is it actually free? Most important, is it safe?

    Once a year, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report. Also, if you are turned down for credit. Contact Equifax and you do need to put your ss # and other stuff down online, but I think you can call them as well. Free Credit Repair and other companies are a scam, why pay when you can do it for free? and u pay A LOT.

    There are no costs. To get the most out of it, get a report from one of the three, every four months.

    If you want your “FICO” score, you will have to pay around 10 bucks.

    If you are not sure about security of this site, check it out with better biz bureau – or call one of the big three.

    Sites like “freecreditreport.com” actually provide services, like credit watch, which have fees.
