go to freecreditreport.com and they will give you the choice of reporting company to use. Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. Pick one and they will ask you some personal information like Account numbers, etc. When all those are passed you will be able to view and print your credit report. You will however have to pay extra to see your credit score, usually $6-$10. Review the report and make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary on that report. Chekck all who may be tied to your credit including your children if you have any. Young kids are the new targets. You can receive 1 free credit report annuall from each of the 3 reporting companies.

Don’t go to freecreditreport.com — that is not free and they will ask for your credit card information
This is the government mandated website where you can get 1 free credit report from the 3 agencies for free in one year:
It will not even ask for your credit card information — it is TOTALLY FREE

Go to (The US Government Federal Trade Commission website) follow the links. It’s free, once per year.

Imisidro and Spifiman are correct. is the only website endorsed by the federal government and all three credit bureaus as the place to go for your one free credit report (one free from each bureau) minus the FICO (which you have to pay for at any website offering credit reports). You can go to this website once a year to request this. This started in January 2005 starting out on the west coast and finally completeing its transition to the east coast at the end of that year. This gives everyone a chance to review and dispute any inaccurate information that is reporting and you can initialize these disputes right on-line with each credit bureau. Any disputes initiated from your one free credit report is given an extention of 15 days extra over the 30 days to validate (total 45 days) or that disputed reporting must be deleted. Go to and learn more about your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Each year you are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies from the following site:
…
You can get all three reports at the same time, or get them at different times during the year.
Note: Despite the misleading name, charges for credit reports. Don’t fall for the gimmick.
